About the Teachers
Nikki leaf
Nikki has been teaching yoga since 1987 and was co-director of the Fremantle Yoga Centre for 20 years. Her studies in ayurveda have greatly enriched her yoga knowledge, and she has integrated this into her practice and teaching. Her teaching style has a strong therapeutic foundation and takes into consideration the ayurvedic body type (prakruti) and also any imbalances (vikruti) to create a balanced yoga routine. Nikki also has a special interest in womens and pregnancy yoga which she has been teaching for many years.
Anne Leishman
Anne Leishman's interest in yoga began in 1975 when she attended her first yoga class here in Perth. She learned Transcendental Meditation in 1977 and at the same time began a personal practice of yoga. In 2003 she was inspired by her teacher and classes at the Fremantle Yoga Centre to undertake a teacher training course. She has been teaching full time since graduating in 2005. Anne has an interest in general yoga practice, anatomy and physiology and working with back problems caused by many hours of sitting while working on computers. She continues to practice and teach Transcendental Meditation which she finds enhances her yoga practice and teaching.
Paul Carrara
Paul came to yoga in 1999 from a long sporting history. He commenced yoga teacher training at the Fremantle Yoga Centre in 2002 and graduated in 2004. Pauls areas of special interest include therapeutic yoga - working on an individual basis with particular problems ie; illness, injury etc. He also enjoys working with sports people having come from that background himself.
Christiane Steinward
Christiane started practising Yoga in 2003 to manage chronic low back pain.
She completed teacher training in 2006 in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar and has also studied Yoga therapy and Yoga philosophy in India. Christiane’s love of Yoga and fascination with the body lead her to study Physiotherapy at Curtin University from which she is scheduled to graduate in 2012.
Christiane incorporates different aspects of Yoga practise into her classes including flowing postures (asana), chanting, breathing (pranayama) and meditation. She is passionate about translating the benefits of regular Yoga and meditation practise into everyday life and encourages her students to do the same.
