Nikki has been teaching yoga since 1987 and was co-director of the Fremantle Yoga Centre in Western Australia for over 20 years. Her keen interest in Ayurveda led to her studies with Dr Rajen Cooppan between 2000 – 2003, in which she gained an Advanced Diploma in Ayurveda. These studies greatly enriched her yoga knowledge and she has integrated this into her practice and teaching at her new yoga centre – Yogaveda.
Nikki’s teaching style draws on the various yoga traditions she has studied over the years but particularly on the Hatha / Iyengar methods with their emphasis on correct alignment and the use of props to support in areas of restriction. She teaches from a strong therapeutic foundation and takes into account the Ayurvedic body type (Prakruti), any imbalances (Vikruti), as well as any physical limitations. An important focus of her teaching is developing a mindful yoga practice, learning to integrate the breath and creating a sense of wellbeing.
